Rebecca Calder

Hi there— I’m THE Calder, the kids bring the Soul.

I was confused about my child’s education and I needed help, I needed a community. It was the birth of my second child who set me on a beautiful journey of discovery in the education world. My son didn’t fit in the conventional school systems, and while we had tried many different kinds of schools and centers, and some of the elements worked, nothing truly clicked. It was then that I asked my dear friend Tara to watch him while I went back to school. I studied the education systems and styles from all around the world. It became so evident that every single child is different and has their own unique way of learning.

So I created a school. A sanctuary, for my son and for the kids who didn’t quite fit in. Over the past 20 years it is evident that children thrive when they are seen and heard, where they have a safe space to explore and discover. So it became that; a safe place where they had freedom of movement, learned to understand and express their own individual needs, and a place where they are respected and celebrated.

While teaching them is the goal, we find often, them teaching us, through their own experiences, curiosity, imagination, and independence.

The idea is to help foster an environment which will provide them the space and support to become great adults, because we need them.

Hello!

My name’s Tara, but the kids call me Ms.Tara. I have been in the education world for 25 years and specifically with Calder Soul for 12 Years.

I thrive on being creative with the children and watching their little minds flourish. Learning how to embrace your child’s strengths while giving them the confidence to grow, helps me grow as well.

At home I am a beekeeper, mom of 2, wife, and creator. You can catch me pulling pranks, going on adventures, and exploring the big wide world.

Hi! I’m Filomena,

But you can call me Ms. Fil. I nannied throughout my university years where I obtained my B.Cs in Biology (my intentions were veterinarian school). But My love for little minds and the way they develop new skills in their own special ways, led to a full time position in a Montessori school. After 6 years I found Calder Soul. I fell in love with the philosophy— that every child wants to learn, and wanted to be a part of this system that I truly believe in.

When I am not teaching at Calder Soul, you can find me in the kitchen cooking and baking, in the gym, walking my fur baby, or hanging with friends and family.

Salutations!
